For singers, being chosen to play the ending song in a music program is a matter of pride. That's because the ending performance is usually the show's highlight. That's why the order of performances is very important. As rival girl groups, it will be a blow to either Girls' Generation or 2NE1 if they aren't chosen to be the final stage. SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment will have a huge ego fight between the two agencies.
So which girl group will have the glory of playing the final stage?
Girls' Generation and 2NE1 both recently had their comebacks, and are in the midst of a very lively musical war. "Inkigayo" could very well play a vital part in this fierce competition. Usually the order of performances is something that could be given up in a 'cool manner', but this time around both agencies are determined to fight. Even the PDs are in deep contemplation over this matter. They are weighing the two agencies, considering who should take the spot.
On March 4th PD Kim Joo Hyung stated, "We haven't yet decided the order of performances." PD Kim said, "We will have further discussions with CP Baek Jung Ryul and staff and will decide on the order of the two comeback stage performances. As much as two of the best girl groups are both starring on 'Inkigayo', the staff is in deep thought as to the order. This is a very sensitive subject. Even if we were to make a decision, it'll be difficult to release that information."
Usually in a music program, the hottest singers take the final performance. For "Inkigayo", usually one of the three number 1 candidates takes that stage. In the case of a comeback, the greater singer might take the spot. In 2012 the September 16 broadcast featured 4 comeback performances, including G-Dragon's "Crayon", FTIsland's "I Wish", and Orange Caramel's "Lipstick". The highlighted final stage was taken by G-Dragon. Sometimes the decision will be made based on who debuted first. In 2013's September 15th broadcast, Park Jin Young and G-Dragon both held simultaneous comebacks with "Had Enough Parties" and "Crooked", respectively. The final stage was given to Park Jin Young, who debuted far before G-Dragon.
There have been times when agencies held fierce battles for the last stage. One music rep stated, "In the past, one popular idol group took a great blow to their pride when the final stage was given to someone else. They didn't fulfill their schedules and didn't show up. It's almost as important as who takes home the number 1 trophy. When two similar rival teams have simultaneous comebacks, the staff and agencies all hold their breaths." One broadcasting station music program PD said, "It all boils down to which group will have a greater impact with the time slot of honor. 2NE1 will have their first comeback performance through 'Inkigayo' on the 9th. On the other hand, Girls' Generation will already have performed on Mnet's 'M! Countdown' on the 6th. In any case it's very possible that the last performance slot will be given to 2NE1, who is showcasing their new song for the first time."
Besides the order of their songs, the public is focused on the respective teams' performances. In a sense 2NE1 won the first battle in the music chart wars with their 2nd full length album Crush's title song "Come Back Home." Will Girls' Generation's performance and costume attire take over 2NE1's first battle win?
