On Monday, a representative for MR.MR confirmed that the group's new song disses Girls' Generation for using their band name for the title of their new single.
But slamming other artists in musical form is nothing new. Here are the top five diss tracks of all time.
2Pac – "Hit 'Em Up"
Like Us on Facebook
This notorious 2Pac diss track targets Notorious B.I.G., Lil Kim, Puff Daddy, Bad Boy Family, Mobb Deep, as well as Junior M.A.F.I.A. Sadly, 2Pac's targets never responded by name, making the battle far less dramatic than the song.
Jay-Z – "Takeover"
Targeting Mobb Deep and Nas, this 2001 diss track has a counter track called "Ether" by Nas, and fans will forever argue about which track is better.
Eminem – "Nail in the Coffin"
This diss track actually targets magazine owner Benzino and his publication The Source. After attempting to start his own hip-hop career, Benzino has been going back and forth with Eminem, resulting in this seminal diss song by the "8 Mile" star.
50 Cent – "Back Down"
Aimed at Ja Rule, some believe 50 Cent's rise to fame signified the end of Ja Rule's mainstream career. Released in 2003, many believe the battle to be firstly won by 50 Cent. Perhaps Ja Rule will release a track in response in the future…
Kendrick Lamar – "Control"
Release on August 12, 2013, this new diss verse takes place on Big Sean's new song, targeting J Cole, Big KRIT, Wale, Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electron, Tyler the Creator, and Mac Miller. Since the release, various rappers like Diddy and Jay-Z have responded on Instagram.
Which diss track is your favorite, and how does it compare to Mr.Mr.'s response to Girls' Generation?
