2NE1's double title song "Come Back Home" and "Gotta Be You," as well as their other album songs ranked high on the charts. In comparison, Girls' Generation only ranked their title song "Mr.Mr," which lingered around 5th and 6th place on the list.
In the beginning there was great interest in K-pop's two leading girl groups. As of now, 2NE1 seems to have won this battle. Girls' Generation released their music on the 24th, and 2NE1 released theirs on the 26th, so there was about a 2 day gap.
Thereafter Girls' Generation released the "Mr.Mr" music video on the 28th, but they couldn't decrease the margin of difference. Furthermore, 2NE1 released the music videos for "Come Back Home" and "Happy" on March 4rd, and are fighting back.
But there's still time to turn things around.
As of now, both girl groups haven't yet showcased their comeback performances on television. Girls' Generation will have their first comeback stage on Mnet's "M Countdown" on the 6th. There's talk that their performance will possibly reverse the situation at hand. 2NE1 will have their comeback performance on the 9th through SBS' "Inkigayo."
Girls' Generation's global popularity is seen through YouTube views. As of now, the music video for "Mr.Mr" already has over 5.2 million views, and is being highlighted by music fans worldwide.
Girls' Generation is also number 1 on Hanteo's live charts, and is excelling in album sales. As time passes, the competition between the two girl groups will get fiercer and fiercer. Who will win the battle of performances?
