Psy Nominated for Three Titles of 2012 WMA

World-famous singer-rapper Psy was nominated for three titles - best song, best video, best male artist - at the 2012 World Music Awards (WMA) for his hit “Gangnam Style.”

According to the WMA’s official website on Friday, in the best video category at the 2012 WMA, on top of Gangnam Style, the music video for “Oppa You’re My Style,” a sequel to “Gangnam Style”, was also listed as a candidate.

Psy was not the only Korean nominated this year. Lee Hi and Ailee were selected as awards candidates in the best song category while Big Bang, Girls’ Generation, Super Junior and Wonder Girls have been selected for the best group category.

HyunA, a member of K-pop girl group 4Minute who appeared in Psy’s “Gangnam Style” video series, was nominated for best female artist.

WMA officials will decide the final awardees based on worldwide sales figures provided by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and a poll of internet users. The international awards show annually honors artists since 1989. This year's awarding show is scheduled to be held in Marines Park in Miami, Florida, on Dec. 20 (U.S. Eastern Standard Time).

Meanwhile, U.S. music magazine Rolling Stone opined on its website on Dec. 6 that it was surprising Psy had not been nominated for the 55th Grammy Awards to be held next February. In an article under the title “2013 Nominations: Five surprises”, the magazine expressed surpirse that Psy, who caused a sensation on YouTube with Gangnam Style, was not nominated in any category of Grammy Awards.
