Comedienne Lee Gook Joo Goes for Sexy in W Korea + Talks Body Confidence

Roommate” cast member and comedienne Lee Gook Joo showed off her unexpected sexiness in a new pictorial.

Lee Gook Joo recently took part in a photo shoot for the December issue of fashion magazine W Korea. Titled, ‘My Light Girl’ (a play on words with drama title “My Lovely Girl”), the comedienne broke away from her usual comical image and took on a bold, sexy concept for this pictorial.

Starting with her outfit, she wore a form-fitting black asymmetrical dress decorated with chiffon, with garter belt tights underneath to emphasize her figure. The comedienne also struck poses that overflowed with confidence, showing off her legs and S-line.

Following the end of the photo shoot, Lee Gook Joo shared during an interview, “I’ve never really liked my body until now. Despite this, the reason I can be confident is because I’m a person who is able to give laughter to others through that.”

Highlights: “Pinocchio” Episode 4

Highlights: “Pinocchio” Episode 4

It’s time for our two aspiring reporters to see if they’ve got what it takes to earn a spot at YGN, and the answer is… maybe? In other news, Dal Po finally cuts his hair and puts on a suit, and it is possibly the greatest thing that’s happened in the history of television. Basically, this was yet another great episode of “”, in which we get to meet our enjoyably kooky second leads, and Dal Po and In Ha are confronted with some uncomfortable (and, for Dal Po, tragic) revelations.

These were my five favorite scenes from “Pinocchio”, episode 4:

1. The “brothers” have a talk

I find the relationship between Dal Po and Dal Pyung so fascinating, because it seems clear that Dal Pyung hasn’t accepted Dal Po into the family in the same way that In Ha has. So he’s stuck living with this kid who’s twenty-five years younger than him, and he has to call him “hyung-nim.” It’s such an uncomfortable dynamic, and that’s on full display in this scene, as Dal Pyung confronts Dal Po about his (incredibly obvious) crush on In Ha. This isn’t an aggressive or angry scene—I think a large part of Dal Pyung’s problem with the idea of Dal Po liking In Ha is that he still doesn’t really know Dal Po, even though he’s lived with him for thirteen years. But Dal Po makes it clear that his priorities are with the family—he has no plans to act on his crush. I love how real this fake family has become to Dal Po, to the point where he is willing to withstand a lot of emotional pain just to make sure that nothing happens to it. pinocchio 4 lee jong suk 1 final pinochio 4 shin jung geun final

2. Dad knew all along

As welcome and glorious as Dal Po’s makeover was, even better was the conversation on the bus between Dal Po and Gong Pil, in which “dad” admits that he’s known for years that Dal Po isn’t his real son, but he’s been pretending he is because he doesn’t want Dal Po to leave him. It’s such a sweet, tender moment, and it makes me so happy that even though Dal Po lost his biological father, he found a new father who loves him.

pinocchio 4 lee jong suk 2 final pinocchio 4 byun hee bong final

3. The toast fantasy

Oh wow. I nearly fell off my chair laughing during this scene, as Dal Pyung imagines a world in which Dal Po and In Ha are coworkers/a couple. His vision of a erotically charged, softly lit, domestic morning was just so delightfully bizarre. It also served as a very welcome moment of levity before the dark final act.

pinocchio 4 lee jong suk 3 finalpinocchio 4 park shin hye final pinocchio 4 park shin hye lee jong suk final pinocchio 4 shin jung geun final

4. The debate

From the moment that they turned on the footage from that fire, I knew this scene would be hard to watch, but it just kept getting worse and worse. For Dal Po to find out that his father has been dead all along, in a situation where he can’t react in any way, was simply crushing. And then for him to have to sit and listen to all the applicants talk about what happened in such a dry and abstract way was even worse. To everyone in the room but Dal Po, what happened is a sad story, but it’s old news—a topic for debate. For Dal Po, what happened shattered his life, and he deals with the effects of that every day. And then for him to hear In Ha say that what happened was nobody’s fault… It’s understandable why he reacted the way he did. To be sure, it was really cruel for him to reveal that she’s a Pinocchio. But he was so upset—and so shocked from the news of his father’s death—that I’m willing to give him a pass (as long as he apologizes to In Ha!).

pinocchio 4 lee jong suk 4 final pinocchio 4 park shin hye 2 final

5. A revelation in the elevator

The final scene of the episode, which cut between In Ha’s realization that she likes Dal Po and Dal Po finally being able to grieve for his father, was so lovely. I love how generous In Ha is—she isn’t angry at Dal Po for revealing her secret, she’s just upset that he can’t be on her side, the way he always has been. She’s just become so accustomed to Dal Po always being there for her that her heart breaks when he isn’t. But she still needs Bum Jo to suggest that maybe part of why she’s upset is that she has a crush on Dal Po. It’s wonderful how those words are like turning on a light in In Ha’s head. Before, she had never thought of liking Dal Po that way, and she could comfortably say that she didn’t without hiccuping. But now, after losing his support so painfully, she’s finally ready to understand that she really does like him.

The Origin of the Baby New Year

Every year it's the same thing. Some diapered little baby is paraded around wearing a sash with the new year written on it. Who hasn't been to a New Year's Party that ended that way, huh? Okay, me neither. But the Baby New Year is still an iconic image that even popped up in a really bad sequel to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Baby. Usually in concert with the Baby New Year there is also a wizened old man with a ZZ Top beard. But this article isn't about that. It's about that naked baby.

The use of an infant as a symbol of the start of the new cycle that begins with the passage of the year dates back to ancient Greece. The festival of Dionysus, who was the god of wine, song and merriment let us not forget, was a big thing for the Greeks. No doubt the festival of Dionysus often ended long after the womenfolk had been sent to bed and each male reveler had left his male Greek friends behind to unsteadily walk home to the little woman.

Before these parties got down to the good stuff, however, it was the custom of the time to parade a newborn baby around in a basket. The baby was a symbol and a herald for fertility of the crops. (Probably just the crops since Greek style doesn't produce much in the way of offspring.

None so's you want to keep, anyway.) Across that big lake, the Egyptians were also fond of holding a ceremony of rebirth that involved the use of a young baby. In fact, there was a specific ceremonial ritual involving a young man and an older bearded man carrying a baby inside a basket that was discovered on the lid of a sarcophagus that is now on display in a museum.

The symbol of a Baby New Year was ubiquitous throughout the pagan religions so it should come as no surprise that the Catholic Church disallowed it for centuries. Finally, thanks to a fact that Bush seems incapable of grasping---that it is next to impossible to kill an idea that people cleave to with all their might---the Catholic Church gave in and allowed infants to be used in New Year celebrations. Okay, they made one adjustment. The Baby New Year was transformed from a pagan symbol into a symbol of the Baby Christ.

The contemporary image of the Baby New Year comes to us, like the Christmas tree, courtesy of those fun-loving, always-with-the-joke Germans. It was the Germans, you see, who first slapped a diaper on the Baby New Year. The newly diapered Baby New Year first cropped up in German woodcarving illustrations in the 1300s. When the German immigrants poured into Pennsylvania they brought with them the Christmas tree, Groundhog Day and our current image of the Baby New Year.

Highlights from 1st and 2nd day of RUN@SEOUL WEEK

A global digital campaign titled ‘Run@Seoul Week’ has kicked off on Wednesday, November 19 with its official opening ceremony. This event is designed to promote dynamic and lively images of Seoul through global citizens’ interactive participation. Global citizens can directly and indirectly experience Seoul by watching the live video stream of 5 runners from US, Singapore, China and Japan.

(5 runners during opening ceremony; From left to right: Xie Yi from China, Aaron Trimble from USA, Zhou Lin Jin from China, Kento Okazaki from Japan and Syahmi Rashid from Singapore)

The runners are currently carrying out the missions of finding attractions in Seoul, given by the controllers. The Controllers from all over the world are giving real-time missions to the runners, and the controllers who give the best missions to the runners will get opportunities to win amazing prizes, including a round trip flight ticket to Seoul, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, action camera, digital camera and t-shirts.

Here are fun episodes from the 1st day of RUN@SEOUL WEEK!

Aaron’s mission spot was Dongdaemun, and his mission was to buy a short-sleeve t-shirt. Although he liked the area, he chose this mission as the most difficult one because he just could not find a short-sleeve shirt that he could buy with his budget. In addition, because it is winter in Korea, and the shop he went into was women’s clothing store, he did not have many options. Look at him struggling to find a shirt!

(Aaron trying to find a short-sleeve shirt to accomplish his mission)

Syahmi’s mission spot was Yongsan. Although he had a stereotype on Yongsan that it was an area for Electronics, after spending time in Yongsan, his impression on the area has changed. His mission was to visit “Jjimjilbang”(public bathhouse or spa), and he chose this mission as the most memorable one because he could finally visit Jjimjilbang for the first time. Look at him having “sikhye” (Korean rice beverage) there!

(Syahmi at Jjimjilbang)

Xie Yi’s mission was to find a restaurant that had “galchijorim.” At first, he had hard time finding one, but fortunately, he encountered a Chinese person who was a waiter at the restaurant, so he could successfully complete his misson.

(Xie Yi at Galchijorim restaurant)

Here are fun episodes from the 2nd day of RUN@SEOUL WEEK!

Kento chose Samcheong-dong as the most memorable place of the day because he got to ride on rickshaw. He was able to experience and enjoy the area better because the rickshaw driver explained different parts of Samcheongdong for him.

(Kento with rickshaw driver)

Lin Jin’s mission spot was Insadong, and she picked apricot tea and cane stick ice cream as the most delicious foods she tried that day. She really enjoyed sweet and sour taste of the tea, and she said ice cream was really good, although it was strange-looking.

(Linjin enjoying her time in Insadong)

Watch the highlights video to learn more about the dynamic city, Seoul!

The campaign will end on Sunday, November 23, and all global citizens are encouraged to participate in the campaign as a controller. Any global citizens who love Seoul and are interested in Korean culture can participate as controllers via www.runseoul.kr.

Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Suk share a 'sandwich kiss' in the latest episode of 'Pinocchio'

In the latest episode of SBS drama, "Pinocchio" aired on November 20th, the cute "kiss scene" of two main characters drew a lot of attention.

During the scene, Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Suk look like a newly-wed couple seeing each other off for work in the morning. They shared a slice of a sandwich and their lips nearly touched, making it so romantic. It also resembles the "cotton candy kiss" from drama " That winter the wind blows" so fans right away named it a " sandwich kiss", showing hot reactions.

A representative of the drama revealed, “Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Suk are showing the best chemistry together even in or off camera. You could hear their endless laughter at the filming set, and alsoon screen.”

Meanwhile, "Pinocchio" tells about those who want to become journalists and how they try to fulfill their dreams. It is drawing a lot of attention for good casts and also well-known director and writer that made  the hit “I Hear Your Voice”.

Highlights: “Pride and Prejudice” Episode 7

Highlights: “Pride and Prejudice” Episode 7

We only have one episode of “” this week, due to a , but luckily it’s a good one. I’m quickly discovering that how much I enjoy a given episode is almost entirely dependent on what sort of case Team Prosecutor is working on. With the drug-related cases, I tend to check out pretty quickly—not because they’re necessarily bad, but because they’re pretty dry. But in the episodes where the main case is centered around a person, I’m always engaged. This drama does a great job of making me care about the victims, and feeling as passionate about them receiving justice as Yeol Moo does.

This week we continuing examining last week’s suicide case, which is more complex than it may have first appeared. It’s an involving and moving story. Even better, Dong Chi starts to open up to Yeol Moo about the details of her brother’s death. Finally, honesty! All in all, it’s a fun, satisfying episode.

These were my five favorite scenes from “Pride and Prejudice” episode seven:

1. “Are they filming an educational video?”

Moon Hee Man is a character I have trouble with, because he spends nearly all of his time yelling at his subordinates, which I believe is both bad management and rude. But if he’s going to be mean to his underlings, I like for him to also be funny, and this line—a response to Yeol Moo and Lee Jang Won’s equal but unique inabilities to conduct interviews—really made me laugh out loud. More of the funny lines, less of the employee abuse, please!

pride and prejudice 7 baek jin hee 1 final pride and prejudice 7 choi woo shik final

2. Kang Soo can’t sleep

Kang Soo is back at work, but the events at Incheon Harbor still haunt him. Even though he puts on a cheery face, this scene, in which he tries to go to sleep and instead relives the death of the Panda, reveals that he still hasn’t moved past what happened. My heart breaks for him, because the Panda’s death truly wasn’t his fault. But I love that Kang Soo can’t just immediately move on—it shows what a good person he truly is.

pride and prejudice lee tae hwan final

3. Prosecutor Lee isn’t as clever as he thinks he is

I love the partnership of Prosecutor Lee and Investigator Yoo. They are so wonderfully mismatched, and they almost always make me laugh. This scene, in which Prosecutor Lee tries (and fails) to hide from Moon Hee Man just how many open cases he has, was no exception. I could watch these two bickering and making faces at each other for a whole episode.

4. Yeol Moo always stands up for the innocent

Like I said, I thought this week’s case story was really good. The reveal that the victim, Cha Yoon Hee, committed suicide because her gross boss had threatened her job if she didn’t let him touch her, was genuinely heartbreaking. Even just through the few flashbacks we saw, Yoon Hee’s desperation and shame was palpable, her need for a steady job with a salary to support her family overriding her obvious disgust. So even though I knew that Yeol Moo would demand that Team Prosecutor press charges against the boss, I was still delighted when she made her stand, even knowing that she didn’t have enough usable evidence to secure a conviction. Just as good as Yeol Moo’s passion is Dong Chi’s response. He might not show his emotions as clearly as Yeol Moo does, but he takes his job seriously. So he doesn’t dismiss Yeol Moo and tell her that the case is unwinnable. He tells her to go and find evidence to make sure that they can win. What a great scene for Team Prosecutor.

5. “There’s nowhere to throw away your wounds”

I spent all of last week’s episodes yelling at my computer that Dong Chi should just be honest about his involvement in Yeol Moo’s brother’s death so that the two of them can team up and bring the killer to justice. This week, he finally speaks up, as a really lovely response to Yeol Moo’s explanation of why she couldn’t throw away her brother’s belongings. I love the way she said it—that the events in your life that caused you pain will never go away. It’s a lovely call-back to Kang Soo’s trauma, and it reminds Dong Chi that it’s true for him as well—he can’t throw away the pain of wanting to help, and trying to help, and ultimately failing. So he starts to tell Yeol Moo what he knows. Hurrah!
