CNBLUE faces copyright violation lawsuit

CNBLUE has been caught in a copyright violation controversy with a Korean indie band, Crying Nut.

Seoul Central District Court revealed that FNC Entertainment, which houses the idol group, was being sued for infringing on copyright laws after CNBLUE performed Crying Nut’s song without permission, which went on to be recorded and sold in Japan through a DVD.

FNC Entertainment stated that CNBLUE was also the victim in this scenario, as the members were just doing what they were told by the staff of Mnet’s M Countdown back in 2010. They claimed that the original music source was provided by the show’s producers and that the DVD was published without the knowledge of his company.

Mnet said, “We gave Crying Nut a monetary compensation last August. We think they filed a suit against CNBLUE because they performed the song. Since the problem arose from Mnet’s program, we will take responsibility and sort this out.”
