World star Psy will be awarded the Order of Cultural Merit award by South Korea in an official award ceremony that will take place on November 19th at the Olympic Hall in Olympic Park, Seoul.
On November 6th, Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism announced the 10 figures who will be getting orders in the recognition of their great contribution in the development and spread of Korean wave. Psy made it in the list for the success of “Gangnam Style”.
A representative stated, “Psy is receiving the Order of Culture Merit because he has spread awareness for Korean pop music and increased interest in Korea with ‘Gangnam Style’ that was released back in July 2012.”
Meanwhile, director Kim Ki Duk, singer Geum Sa Hyang, drama writer Kim Soo Hyun, actor Yoon Il Bong, actress Na Moon Hee, director Song Seung Hwan, singer Song Chang Shik, actress Cho Min Soo, and actor Lee Jung Jin will be all recognized with different orders.
