From trite to refreshing, comic to inspiring, nowadays popular music is filled with unexpected collaboration of two unlikely singers coming together.
It's not simply the combination of two singers that fills the void, but the overturning of preconceived negative images. Cooperation isn't all. Extreme polar opposite image singers coming together might seem awkward and their collaboration might seem awkward and unnecessary. However, the result is an unexpected pleasant surprise. Analogue meets digital, trot meets dance, and youth meets adults to overcome the expected awkward teamwork to have a unique synergistic effect.

Singers Rain and Tae Jin Ah came together for a project Bi Jin Ah during the Lunar New Year holidays. It was quite a sight to see. Until the collaboration, Rain's song "La Song" looked like it would just be another passing song. One netizen made a parody combo of the two singers, which quickly caught on. This led to the two actually meeting offline and organizing a fantastic performance.
Onstage Rain's usual charisma was nowhere to be seen, and Tae Jin Ah captivated the audience with his flimsy (?) dance skills. Rain was able to forget about his difficult military days with this performance, and Tae Jin Ah's drive helped "La Song 2" catch momentum.
Following Bi Jin Ah, Bi Woon Do took the baton. Sul Woon Do was blown away by the footage of Bi Jin Ah's performance, and asked a favor of the staff. He used his own hit song "Everybody Cha Cha Cha" with "La Song" to create "La Cha Cha." Mnet's variety show "Trot X" published Bi Oon Do on YouTube and captured the netizens' attention.
The addition of dance to trot was successful because of the plaintive chorus melody of "La Song." The song's chorus played a big part in Rain's trot rendition in collaboration with the other two singers.
Music critic Kang Tae Kyu commented, "Unlike his previous songs, Rain's 'La Song' gave him the opportunity to discover his trot talent. More than anything, a great music senior's response to a netizen's request, in conjunction with his fearlessness in looking silly, and the courage in actively pursuing this decision has been met with applause from the public."
Korea's 'little sister' IU and Shin Bong Sun was deemed refreshing, too. They had previously emphasized their look-a-like partners on various entertainment programs. The Red Shin Bong Sun came together as promotion models for online action game Dungeon and Fighter. In the promotion video, delicate and weak IU encountered her enemies, and transofmred into Shin Bong Sun to fight them. They looked strikingly similar wearing the same outfit and same makeup. It was an unexpected but entertaining sight to see.
Crayon Pop and Kim Jang Hoon came together to create Crayhoon Pop and maximized their comic factor. This team's surprise events didn't end, and it looks as though they are planning for song releases and more performances together. Crayhoon Pop will be releasing "Hero" on the 5th. They filmed the music video on the 1st. In the revealed music video, Crayhoon Pop was shown wearing flashing emergency lights instead of their usual helmets, as well as firefighter attire. Kim Jang Hoon stood among the girls as a 'hero' and performed a spider web dance in honor of comic book hero Spiderman.
Kim Jang Hoon emphasized, "This isn't just a featuring or guest appearance, but a project between artist and artist. This won't just be a one time event." Until now Crayon Pop has showcased their comic sides, and there's great anticipation as to what kind of moving message they'll present now that Kim Jang Hoon's been added to the mix.
Music experts agree that collaborations will become more bold and more unconventional in the future. Unexpected polar opposites will create content that is fun, not just stimulating. The aforementioned singers have opened doors for the new collaborations to come.
