Korea's leading entertainment company YG Entertainment has gone beyond just their expertise in music and has moved onto acting and modeling. Will YG be able to start a new Hallyu wave?
On February 18th YG announced that they established a strategic partnership and equity investment contract with model company K Plus. With this partnership and investment, YG is planning to move forward as a global total entertainment company.

K Plus' fashion model turned CEO Ko Eun Kyung established the model company in 2008, and has nurtured top models such as Cha Seung Won and Park Dool Sun, as well as Jang Ki Yong, Choi Sora, Stephanie Lee, and 170 other models. It seems as if YG wants to create another model to follow in the footsteps of model turned actor Cha Seung Won with their contract with K Plus as the company seeks to make its expansion into the model industry.
Also, YG is also preparing to enter the clothing market with its new brand Natural9, which they established with Samsung Jaeil Industries (now called Everland). YG can create a new profit model through its partnership with K PLUS, which has a group of professional fashion models.
What's also noteworthy is the fashion Hallyu wave. YG took note of the fact that Korean models are quickly gaining popularity in China, which is one of fashion's most important markets. YG rep Yang Min Suk stated, "Korean models have been receiving the spotlight worldwide, almost as much as K-Pop and Hallyu drama wave. So we are looking forward to a greater growth potential and promising future in this area. We will gather more manpower in the fashion model field through our strategic partnership with and shared investment in K Plus."
YG has nurtured leading groups such as Big Bang and 2NE1, and is widely known as one of the Big 3 entertainment industries in Korea. Besides Cha Seung Won, they have also nurtured popular figures such as Koo Hye Sun, Yoo In Na, and other actors and actresses, and are ever expanding their influence. It looks as if they will be expanding their company to attain more global recognition in both singer and actor industries with their partnership with K Plus.
