Puer Kim Refutes Rumors That Her MV Disses YG and SM
Mystic 89‘s newest female soloist Puer Kim has been accused of dissing YG Entertainment and SM Entertainment in her debut music video, “Manyo Maash.” However, the singer responded, “Those weren’t my intentions.”
On January 23, Mystic 89 reps spoke with TV Report and said, “There is a scene that shows text that relates with YG and SM in the music video. However, this isn’t to diss them. It has a symbolic meaning to say that idol singers can be considered as ‘artists’ as well.”
In the music video, there is a scene where the addresses of YG and SM are shown. Many fans took this to mean that the music video was negatively portraying the two big agencies.
The music video also shows Puer Kim getting beaten by mannequins and being trapped in a recording studio. Viewers have also interpreted these scenes to mean that Puer Kim was either attacked or shut down by the two agencies.
However, the Mystic 89 rep continued, “The music video was not produced with ill intentions. We wanted to focus on expressing how idol singers can be artists as well.”
Puer Kim’s “Manyo Maash” was released on January 20. You can check out her music video here.
I agree with this. I thought the MV was critiquing the control agencies have on idols. Some would probably consider that a diss, but it is true. There are quite a few idols that have proven themselves as successful independent artists.
